Dokdo Volunteer Garrison

Dokdo Volunteer Garrison was a South Korean paramilitary outpost on Dokdo. On April 20, 1953, work began to create a garrison on the islands to protect it from Japanese aggression. Completed in December 30, 1956, it was handed over to the National Police.

Choi Jong Duk

Choi Jong Duk is the first person to live in Dokdo to recognize Dokdo as Korean territory. He changed his address to Dokdo to let the world know that Dokdo is a manned island by being the first citizen in Dokdo after he found out that Japan was claiming Dokdo to be Japanese territory. While he was living in Dokdo, he developed some infrastructure of the island. His son-in-law also moved into Dokdo with Choi Jong Duk's recommendation.
